Summer Lovin’

The first of the summer harvest has begun to fruit. This week we picked our first tomato (This the first year we haven’t lost it to a rat – The Cat has been a good investment!). We have a number of cucumbers and capsicum’s on the way and the corn is beginning to flower (it looks amazing). Of course the fruit trees are in full swing and I can see hundreds of apricots, peacharines and nectarines on their way! The fig and Apples are looking good for young trees and the Lemon survived being moved at the start of November! Much to my delight we have been picking one to two punnets of raspberries a day! At $10 a punnet we have saved well over $300 thus far! A little yogurt, some blueberries (we have two plants but they are still developing), some preserved peaches and we have a lip-smacking breakfast that is not only yummy but good for you! The last of the carrots are being harvested as well. We grew some in pots and some in the ground. The pots produced straighter carrots but the ground grown ones were much nicer!

But alas it is not all good news. One of our tomato plants (and heirloom black Russian) was diseased so out it came. And it was laden with fruit! Oh well, better to lose one plant than them all and the few toms that were on it will be made into a lovely jar of green mustard pickles!

Enjoy the pics and tell me how your summer veggies and fruits are coming along!

The Patch All is not lost! one or two of these a day! Rots!
